Bachelor of Science in Industrial Design: Concentration in Product Design and Development

College of Liberal & Creative Arts

The 59-unit Bachelor of Science in Industrial Design addresses the creation of industrial goods and services and concentrates on three principle aspects of design -- process, people, and product. Our program incorporates the study of user-centered needs, relative to the responsible and resourceful implementation of technology innovation, materials, marketing principles, and aesthetic values.

The BSID_PDD program at SFSU prepares students for the contemporary Product Design field. We have classes that prepare them for entry into existing positions, and we pride ourselves on training for the future of Product Design: The Internet of Things, Service Design, and new Human-Computer Interactions.

In addition to our department scholarships, we offer the Martin Linder Scholarship for ID Seniors. This grants 2000.00 to ID students entering their Senior year. We also have important competitions, such as the Stanford Design Challenge and the Housewares competition embedded in classes, so our students can compete, and win, with work done in class. We have an active IDSA (Industrial Design Society of America) Student chapter.
