Bachelor of Arts in English: Concentration in Literature

College of Liberal & Creative Arts

No matter what the subject, all courses within the major foster students’ close reading, writing, and analytical skills. Literature majors can expect to hone their aptitude for writing, research, oral communication, and analytical thinking. This practical skill set prepares our majors for many career opportunities, including teaching, writing and publishing, law, information science, business and marketing, and more.

The English Student Association (ESA) is an organization for all undergraduate students pursuing an English degree. Its purpose is to generate student involvement in the department and foster a greater sense of community through social events, as well as academic and career-focused workshops. If you are interested in getting involved and staying up-to-date on future events, we invite you to follow them on Facebook at English Undergraduate Student Association at SFSU, and Instagram & Snapchat @EUSASFSU. They can also be reached via e-mail at eusasfsu@gmail.com.

Scholarship opportunities:

The Michael Krasny Award in English Literature Scholarship provides an award of up to $4,000 to a declared undergraduate English Literature student. This awards a scholarship in honor of our eminent faculty member, Professor Michael Krasny, to an undergraduate student who demonstrates a record of excellence in our English Literature program. The awardee must have a commitment to serving an ambassadorial role for the English major at department events or participation in other outreach projects for the major.
